Dustin Chambers

is a Staff Human Factors Specialist at UserWorks Inc. with experience conducting ethnographic field studies and user research. He recently joined UserWorks in 2006 after having completed his masters in human factors and ergonomics.

Mr. Chambers is currently working on a project for the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) conducting a usability test for a biometrics workstation. This workstation has been designed to collect photos, fingerprints, and iris scans for research purposes. The project will develop quantitative and qualitative usability measures for the workstation as well as determine the personnel requirements for its operation. He is also involved with a project for the Department of Justice Office of Science and Technology. UserWorks, Inc. is assisting in the redesign of the National Institute of Justice Website, by offering user-centered design services. The project is currently utilizing a card sorting exercise to assist in reworking the information architecture and navigation aspects of the Website. He also assists with UserWorks' recruitment efforts.

For his Master's thesis, Mr. Chambers studied accessibility issues for the physically impaired in sub-Saharan Africa. He gathered ethnographic data, observing and interviewing both individuals and groups, for his project during a month long field exercise through Central Malawi. His project was cosponsored by his University Department and the Norwegian Church Association (NCA). As an undergraduate, he majored in Psychology with a minor in graphic design. He has a working familiarity with CAD tools, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark Xpress.
